Bots and bargains: Zara owner launches cut-price Lefties in UK to rival Primark
The Guardian
Inditex, the owner of Zara, has launched its value-focused fashion chain Lefties in the UK, opening its first store in Liverpool as it looks to compete with retailers such as Primark and Shein. Originally created as an outlet for excess Zara stock, Lefties has evolved into a standalone brand offering affordable fashion, accessories and homeware. The stores also feature automation such as self-checkouts and robotic stock-sorting systems to support a low-cost operating model.
The launch highlights the growing importance of value-led retail as consumers remain highly price-conscious across fashion categories. It also demonstrates how retailers are increasingly combining affordability with technology to improve efficiency and enhance the customer experience. As competition intensifies at the value end of the market, brands are exploring new ways to deliver convenience, accessibility and low prices while maintaining profitability.
